Watch this Video: Andrew Farley explains that it is not about rules and formulas. The law kills and the Spirit gives life.
“So some of you might know my story. I was nineteen years old and I found myself on the floor of my apartment, and I was begging God for answers. I mean I was saying, “God look I’m doing everything they said to do.”
I mean, I’m sharing my faith with everyone I meet. I’m on the streets of Greece and Italy. I’m in halfway houses. I’m in prisons. I’m in jails. I’m skipping classes. I’m failing out of University in order to share my faith.
And yet I still don’t feel close. I still don’t feel ok. I would recall my [quote] “lack of service” around 11 or 12 o’clock at night. I would go to the 24 hour grocery store and find somebody in the produce isle that I could share my faith with – so that I could feel better – so that I could sleep.
I would read my bible 4 or 5 hours per day. I was in church every time the doors were open. And my formula was broken.
You say, “That’s insanity. That’s intensity.” Well all I was doing was living out the formula I had been given …
And so I’m telling God about this. I’m saying, “God I’m doing everything, fulfilling all the requirements they gave me, and yet I don’t feel clean and I don’t feel close. Where did I go wrong?”
And at that point a rebuilding process began. It was not a lightning bolt out of Heaven … It was a ten year period of replacing old thoughts with new thoughts. And right at the center of that reprogramming was the message of The New Convenant.” – Andrew Farley
8 For finding fault with them, He says,
“Behold, days are coming, says the Lord,
When I will effect a new covenant
With the house of Israel and with the house of Judah;
9 Not like the covenant which I made with their fathers
On the day when I took them by the hand
To lead them out of the land of Egypt;
For they did not continue in My covenant,
And I did not care for them, says the Lord.
10 “For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel
After those days, says the Lord:
I will put My laws into their minds,
And I will write them on their hearts.
And I will be their God,
And they shall be My people.
11 “And they shall not teach everyone his fellow citizen,
And everyone his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’
For all will know Me,
From the least to the greatest of them.
20 If you have died with Christ to the elementary principles of the world, why, as if you were living in the world, do you submit yourself to decrees, such as, 21 “Do not handle, do not taste, do not touch!” 22 (which all refer to things destined to perish with use)—in accordance with the commandments and teachings of men? 23 These are matters which have, to be sure, the appearance of wisdom in self-made religion and self-abasement and severe treatment of the body, but are of no value against fleshly indulgence.
